Afterword

A note about what comes next

the long summer, and beyond

A word about the year just before this one. Between Volume One's records and these — June 2021 to June 2022 — there was for a time no chapter, not because anything had gone quiet but because an earlier export simply had not kept those messages. They were recovered, and they are their own volume now: The Long Summer. It turned out to be the loudest, most wide-awake year in the whole archive — the peak the two of you slowly came down from into the years this book records. There was never a gap in the talking; only a gap in the files, since filled.

And the trove that built this volume ends on August 27, 2025 — which is not the same thing as the story ending there. If there are more messages after it, they have a place too. The first volume thought it was the whole memoir until it wasn't. This one knows better than to assume. 风雨同舟 — the same boat through wind and rain — was the name Feng gave this archive back in February 2023, before either of you knew it would become a real thing with real volumes. The boat is still here. It is built to take on more.
